Filling Out the Hollows as You Age: How Cosmetic Injections to Your Temples can Help you Look Younger.
Dermal fillers are becoming super popular these days as men and women are using injections to plump lips and hide wrinkles as they fight the hands of time. Injectable dermal fillers are soft tissue fillers that are injected into your skin to help fill in and temporarily erase your wrinkles. Over time as Clinical Injectors, we have become more creative with the way we use dermal fillers to help patients who want rejuvenating facial effects. “An area not well known involves injecting dermal fillers into the temple areas to reduce the hollowing appearance of ageing,” notes Senior Injecting Nurse Sandra Wallace (available at our Hawthorn Clinic location). Dermal Filler Injections to Temples (Cosmetic Injections to Temples or Temple Fillers) are gaining popularity as an effective way to reduce the signs of facial atrophy that often occur with age.
“Treating simple lines and wrinkles may appease the effects of ageing, temporarily, but FULL facial rejuvenation using fillers to restore lost volume is often a more appealing way to get a better overall outcome for patients who want to achieve a good anti ageing effect from Cosmetic Injections.”

“As we age our facial volume diminishes. The hollow area of the temples is an area that is often overlooked by both patients and plastic surgeons. Some people have hollower temples than others and that can simply be due to genetics and facial bone structure, but many people experience a hollowing with time and age.
“This is typically due to the loss of volume and fat or muscle in the area. If you take a look at the faces of different people, you will see that most people’s temples DO have a slight concavity to them, but if they dip in too much, it disrupts the overall appearance of the face. The silhouette is changed and the face can actually appears distorted. When you have overly hollow temples, it highlights the appearance of your changing orbital bones or your cheekbones. Hollow temples and the resulting facial appearance may leave you with features that appear as if they are associated with ageing or poor health, even when you’re healthy. This can sometimes lead to your face having a very ‘skeleton’ like appearance that would benefit from restoration of volume using dermal fillers.
“This hollowing of the temple area is so common as we age, it has led to the practice of using dermal fillers to provide restored volume to those areas (cosmetic injections to temples). Temple injections have a good anti-ageing effect and can help rejuvenate your overall look.
Injections to temple areas of the face can provide your face with a better overall shape as well as a smoother appearance between the orbital and cheekbones all the way to the hairline.
“This can restore your declining facial volume for a thoroughly rejuvenating boost to your appearance – in a subtle yet effective way,” notes Sandra.
Sandra believes that carefully injecting the temple area with dermal fillers can do a LOT to rejuvenate the overall facial appearance.
“Temple injections can temporarily reduce the appearance of skeletal atrophy or other age-related tissue changes,” she continues. But Sandra Wallace emphasises that patients need to be careful to avoid discount places that might be using fake or inferior injectables. She encourages patients to ask about the experience of any prospective Injector AND about the injecting procedure itself.
“It is imperative that you choose a well-respected and experienced Clinical Injector who is trusted in the community. Injecting the temple hollows is not the same as getting your lips done,” she continues. “This procedure requires specific techniques as the tissues and muscles in the area work differently than other areas of the face. Look for an Injector who has been successfully administering injectables for a long time.”
Sandra’s Dermal Filler – Injecting Tips for Temple Volumisation
- Going in for consultations is the best way to get to know the practice and the Injector and get your questions answered.
- It is important to ask as many questions as you feel are necessary.
- Find out which kind of filler your Injector will be using as there are several different kinds and numerous brands, not all of the same quality or reputation.
- An approved temporary-filler-solution fillers are one of the safest and are temporary but can be long lasting – which is what you want.
A Good Cosmetic Injector will know which option is best for you and be able to clearly articulate why they are choosing a particular brand, type or injecting strategy.
You also want to be sure to ask about side effects and risks of temple augmentation procedures using dermal filler injections.
There are risks associated with temple-augmentation procedures (as with any procedure) and they should not be minimized. Be sure you are comfortable with the risks.
- Be sure to avoid all blood thinners like aspirin and ibuprofen for at least five to seven days before your injectable appointment.
- These make your blood less likely to clot and thereby can cause bruising in the delicate areas around your eyes especially.
- You should also avoid certain medications like St. John’s Wart, omega 3 fatty acids, gingko biloba, ginseng, and vitamin E as these can all increase bleeding and bruising.
You can also add certain foods to your diet that will speed up healing and help to limit bruising and swelling.
Adding leafy greens like kale, spinach, and even broccoli to your diet will help increase your body’s vitamin K supply. When your body is deficient in vitamin K you can bruise easier than normal so having this boost will help keep bruises at bay. Citrus fruits rich in vitamin C and bioflavonoids help to heal wounds faster and can help with the turnaround time of your dermal filler injections.
